11 September 2007     Ladies' Nights on Thursdays with Glynis

On Thursdays during September and on 4 October, from 7.20pm onwards, there will be Ladies' Training evenings, run by Glynis. Although it is mainly for the Ladies' teams, all other ladies are welcome.

11 September 2007     Monday Nights are Club Nights

Club Nights are beginning. Each Monday night, from 15 October to 10 December, two courts will be allocated from 7.20pm for all members to come along to the club and play whoever else has turned up. It's a chance to play other club members you may never otherwise get to meet.

7 September 2007     Last Chance to Sign-up for the New Leagues

The new league season is upon us so if you are a new or current member, and want to play in September's league, you will need to put your name down on the  list on the notice board (with preferred league) by the end of Sunday 9 September. The League Secretary (Jamie Tuffee) can then put the new leagues up on the board for Monday 10 September. If you put your name up after 9 September, you will be placed in the next league starting Monday 22 October.

League players will consist of the following players:

  • players from the last league (June 07)
  • new and existing members who place their name on the board

If you played in the last league but do not wish to continue into this league, please let Jamie know.

12 August 2007     "The Changing of the Locks" for membership renewal

It's that time of year again. The squash court door lock will be changed on Sunday 2 September and subscriptions will be due from this date. Keys can be collected at the club on the following dates:

  • Sunday 2 September, from 10 am to 12 noon
  • Wednesday 5 September, from 7.30pm to 9 pm
  • Sunday 9 September, from 10 am to 12 noon
  • Sunday 16 September, from 10 am to 12 noon

Bring along your cheque (made out to Fenland Squash Club) and completed membership form.  Alternatively, you can send your cheque and completed membership form (with a stamped SAE) to Glynis Fenwick, 28 King Street, Over  CB24 5PS.

15 July 2007     New Members' Evenings on Wed 15 Aug & Thurs 20 Sept

We welcome new members joining us at any time, but are holding two special new members’ evenings to give you a taster of squash if you have never played before, or to re-new your enthusiasm if you haven’t played for a while.

  • Wednesday 15 August & Thursday 20 September
  • Both evenings will be from 7pm to 9.30pm at the squash club courts, Swavesey Village College, and afterwards at the White Horse pub on Swavesey High Street.

For all new members, we are offering your first month of membership free and when you do join, you can choose between junior, solo, family, peak or off-peak memberships - whatever suits you best. If you would like to join the club or come along to a New Members' Evening, contact our chairman, Geoff Green on 01954 231000 or email g2book@mac.com.

If you are new to squash, or have played before, but cannot make one of the new members’ evenings, still get in touch and we can arrange another time to introduce you to the game and some other players of similar ability.

All you need is comfortable sports kit and a clean pair of trainers/sports shoes with white or non-marking soles. We will provide the rackets and balls.

15 July 2007     Your club needs you ... to help with or publicise the New Members' Evenings

Read about the New Members' Evenings above for more details about the planned events. We need current members to help out on one or both dates, to greet prospective members, give them a game, and help make them feel welcome. Contact Geoff on 01954 231000 or email him on g2book@mac.com if would like to volunteer.

And if you can't help out then please take a yellow leaflet or poster from the squash club and give them to someone you know might like to come, or post it up in your window or workplace.

Ongoing Nag     Best (and clean) foot forward

Our perennial bug-bear is the use of out-door footwear on the courts. Please ensure that the shoes you wear for squash are not the ones you have walked to the club in. Each time we sand the floor it costs us around £400, and gradually degrades the wooden flooring.
