Junior News Letter

November 2007

The 3 sessions set up in September now seem to be working well and thanks to Karen, Kate and Hayley who are doing such a good job of assisting.  Sessions will therefore continue as follows:

  • Village college students - 3.15pm to 4.45pm
  • Primary school students - beginners and improvers - 4.45pm to 6pm
  • Years 5, 6 and 7 - more advanced players - 6pm – 7.15pm

Colin Griggs gave a good coaching session during half term but unfortunately only 12 players were able to attend because of other commitments.  Hopefully, after Christmas, he will be able to visit in term time.

Congratulations to Hayley Green who became Girls U15 Champion at the county closed championships and to Emily Philpott who was runner-up. Well done also to Jordan Turian who lost a good match to the eventual U11 Champion.

I have entered 2 teams in the county league this year. I have put one team in Division II to gain experience against some really strong players and one in the U11 where hopefully we can defend the Division IV trophy.

Remaining match dates are as follows:
  • Div II - Nov 25th ( Hunts Co.), Jan 20th (Comberton), Feb 24th (Melbourn), March 16th (Crown Lodge)
  • U11 – Nov 11th (Crown Lodge ), Jan 20th (Fenland), March 16th (St. Ivo)
The next main event is the Brian Fielding Tournament which will be a Grand Prix event this year.  The date is Sunday 9th December and the venue will probably be St. Ivo.

Enjoy your squash.
